Abstract

Eliminating time-consuming post-production processesand delivering high-quality videos in today’s fast-paced digital landscape are the key advantages of real-time approaches. To address these needs, we present Real Time GAZED: a real-time adaptation of the GAZED framework integrated with CineFilter, a novel real-time camera trajectory stabilization approach. It enables users to create professionally edited videos in real-time. Comparative evaluations against baseline methods, including the non-real-time GAZED, demonstrate that Real Time GAZED achieves similar editing results, ensuring high-quality video output. Furthermore, a user study confirms the aesthetic quality of the video edits produced by the Real Time GAZED approach. With these advancements in real-time camera trajectory optimization and video editing presented, the demand for immediate and dynamic content creation in industries such as live broadcasting, sports coverage, news reporting, and social media content creation can be met more efficiently.

Abstract

Fingerprint recognition stands as a pivotal component of biometric technology, with diverse applications from identity verification to advanced search tools. In this paper, we propose a unique method for deriving robust fingerprint representations by leveraging enhancement-based pre-training. Building on the achievements of U- Net-based fingerprint enhancement, our method employs a specialized encoder to derive representations from fingerprint images in a self-supervised manner. We further refine these representations, aiming to enhance the verification capabilities. Our experimental results, tested on publicly available fingerprint datasets, reveal a marked improvement in verification performance against established self-supervised training techniques. Our findings not only highlight the effectiveness of our method but also pave the way for potential advancements. Crucially, our research indicates that it s feasible to extract meaningful fingerprint representations from de- graded images without relying on enhanced samples.

Abstract

Damage caused by an earthquake depends on not just the intensity of an earthquake but also the region-specific construction practices. Past earthquakes in Asian countries have highlighted inadequate construction practices, which caused huge life and property losses, indicating the severe need to strengthen existing structures. Strengthening activities shall be proposed as per the proposed weighting factors, first at the higher weighted members to increase the capacity of the building immediately and thereafter, the other members. Through this study on gravity load-designed (GLD) buildings, relative weights are assigned to each storey and exterior and interior columns within a storey based on their contribution to the energy dissipation capacity of the building. The numerical study is conducted on mid-rise archetype GLD buildings, i.e., 4, 6, 8, and 10 stories with variable storey heights, in the high seismic zones. Non-linear static analysis is performed to compute weights based on energy dissipation capacities. The results obtained are verified with the non-linear time history analysis of 4 GLD buildings. It was observed that exterior columns have higher weightage in the energy dissipation capacity of the building than interior columns up to a certain building height. The damage in stories is distributed in a convex to concave parabolic shape from bottom to top as building height increases, and the maxima location of the parabola shifts from bottom to middle stories. Relative weighting factors are assigned as per the damage contribution. And the sequence for strengthening activities is proposed as per the computed weighting factors in descending order for regular RCC buildings. Therefore, proposals made in the study would increase the efficacy of strengthening activities.

Abstract

Point cloud prediction is an important yet challenging task in the field of autonomous driving. The goal is to predict future point cloud sequences that maintain object structures while accurately representing their temporal motion. These predicted point clouds help in other subsequent tasks like object trajectory estimation for collision avoidance or estimating locations with the least odometry drift. In this work, we present ATPPNet, a novel architecture that predicts future point cloud sequences given a sequence of previous time step point clouds obtained with LiDAR sensor. ATPPNet leverages Conv-LSTM along with channel-wise and spatial attention dually complemented by a 3D-CNN branch for extracting an enhanced spatio-temporal context to recover high quality fidel predictions of future point clouds. We conduct extensive experiments on publicly available datasets and report impressive performance outperforming the existing methods. We also conduct a thorough ablative study of the proposed architecture and provide an application study that highlights the potential of our model for tasks like odometry estimation.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore RIS integration in a millimeter wave (mmWave) communication system with low-complexity transceiver architecture under imperfect channel state information (CSI) assump- tion. Motivated by this, we propose a RIS-aided system with a fully analog architecture at the base station (BS). However, to overcome the drawback of single-user transmission due to the single RF chain in the analog architecture, we propose to employ NOMA to enable multi-user transmission. For such a system, we formulate two problems to obtain the joint transmit beamformer, RIS phase shift matrix, and power allocation solutions that maximize sum rate and energy efficiency such that the minimum rate for each user is satisfied. However, both problems are intractable due to 1) the fractional objective, 2) non-convex minimum rate and unit modulus RIS phase shift constraints, and 3) the coupled optimization variables. Hence, we first tackle the fractional objectives of both problems by reformulating the sum rate and energy efficiency maximization problems into equivalent quadratic forms using the quadratic transform. On the other hand, we employ successive convex approximation and the semi-definite relaxation technique to handle the non-convex minimum rate and unit modulus constraint of the RIS phase shifts, respectively. However, the problems remain non-convex due to the coupled optimization variables. Thus, we propose an alternating optimization-based algorithm that iterates over the transmit beamformer, power allocation, and RIS phase shift subproblems. Further, we also show that the quadratic reformulation is equivalent to the weighted mean square error-based reformulation for the case of sum rate maximization problem. Our numerical results show that the proposed RIS-NOMA integrated analog architecture system outperforms the optimally configured fully digital architecture in terms of sum rate at low SNR and energy efficiency for a wide range of SNR while still maintaining low hardware complexity and cost. Finally, we present the numerical performance analysis of the RIS-NOMA integrated low-complexity system for various system configuration parameters.

Abstract

Radiance Fields are being widely explored for 3D scene reconstruction and several downstream tasks, such as segmentation. Prior radiance field segmentation methods require scene-specific training to enable segmentation. We propose distilling semantic features into Radiance Fields in a generalisable fashion using GNT, a transformer-based architecture, enabling 3D reconstruction and multi-view segmentation on arbitrarily new scenes. By fine-tuning our method, any set of 2D features can be distilled into a radiance field, providing better multi-view consistency than the original features. We show multi-view segmentation results on standard datasets and compare our method against existing NeRF-based segmentation methods. We perform on par with the state-of-the-art scene-specific segmentation methods. Our approach and experiments bring generalisable NeRF methods one step closer to the contemporary NeRF literature.

Abstract

The current study aims to understand whether the constraints in the well-defined problem solving task impacts the ill- defined problem solving task of a different knowledge do- main. We chose variants of Raven’s advanced progressive matrices(APM) for well-defined problem-solving. For the ill- defined problem solving task we have chosen creative reason- ing tasks (CRT) which is of same knowledge domain and al- ternate uses task(Guilford, 1967) of a different knowledge do- main. We have collected a sample of 44 participants. We ob- served a significant effect of the variant of APM on CRT per- formance. Higher number of rules in the CRT was observed when it was preceded by cAPM (Mdn = 2) compared to the classic APM (Mdn = 1). Further, we observed a higher CRT Relationship Score under cAPM (Mdn = 78.5) compared to the classic APM (Mdn = 50.5) puzzle conditions. However, the variant of APM did not show a significant effect on AUT, fluency score(p = 0.8 for independent t-test) and elaboration score (p = 0.48 for Mann-Whitney U test). The current results indicate that creativity is more domain-specific than domain- general.

Counter-intuitive to classical notions, quantum conditional entropy can be negative, playing a pivotal role in information-processing tasks. This article delves deeply into quantum channels, em- phasizing negative conditional entropy breaking channels (NCEB) and introducing negative condi- tional entropy annihilating channels (NCEA). We characterize these channels from both topological and information-theoretic perspectives, examining their properties when combined serially and in parallel. Our exploration extends to complimentary channels associated with NCEB, leading to the introduction of information-leaking channels. Utilizing the parameters of the standard depolarizing channel, we provide tangible examples and further characterization. We demonstrate the relation- ship of NCEB and NCEA with newly introduced channels like coherent information breaking (CIB) and mutual information breaking (MIB), along with standard channels like zero capacity channels. Preservation of quantum resources is an integral constituent of quantum information theory. Rec- ognizing this, we lay prescriptions to detect channels that do not break the negativity of conditional entropy, ensuring the conservation of this quantum resource

Abstract

This paper presents a star-of-star topology for internet-of-things (IoT) networks using mega low-Earth-orbit constellations. The proposed topology enables IoT users to broadcast their sensed data to multiple satellites simultaneously over a shared channel, which is then relayed to the ground station (GS) using amplify-and-forward relaying. The GS coherently combines the signals from multiple satellites using maximal ratio combining. To analyze the performance of the proposed topology in the presence of interference, a comprehensive outage probabil- ity (OP) analysis is performed, assuming imperfect channel state information at the GS. The paper employs stochastic geometry to model the random locations of satellites, making the analysis gen- eral and independent of any specific constellation. Furthermore, the paper examines successive interference cancellation (SIC) and capture model (CM)-based decoding schemes at the GS to mitigate interference. The average OP for the CM-based scheme and the OP of the best user for the SIC scheme are derived analytically. The paper also presents simplified expressions for the OP under a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) assumption, which are utilized to optimize the system parameters for achieving a tar- get OP. The simulation results are consistent with the analytical expressions and provide insights into the impact of various system parameters, such as mask angle, altitude, number of satellites, and decoding order. The findings of this study demonstrate that the proposed topology can effectively leverage the benefits of multiple satellites to achieve the desired OP and enable burst transmissions without coordination among IoT users, making it an attractive choice for satellite-based IoT networks.
